It's not feeling at all like Christmas

It`s almost Christmas but it doesn`t feel like Christmas. For a few factors. One it`s hotter than heck. Two I can`t lesson to Christmas music to get into the spirit and three I won`t be with my family. But I will be with my best friend, my companion. And we will call home and we are going to eat with a really good family so I am a little excited. Things are picking up a bit here in our area. We have a few investigators that are progressing well. Carol and Rita. They are two people super different but both of them are really really cool. We love teaching them it is really cool. And of course to see the Temple everyday is so awesome. A few days the Elders called and said that I got a package. But they didn`t say who it was from. I was hoping it was from my Aunt Candi because I have been waiting a long time for a package from her. But it wasn`t from her it was from a Sister who served in this mission. We did a division one day together and became best friends. She sent me a huge package full of junk food. And my companion got a package as well it was so cool. We were pumped. Today was awesome. All of the Sister came over it was a surprise and we made a lunch and all talked. Our house is perfect for large gatherings. One sister made the food and it was bomb. And I made brownies a few days before. It is so good to be with my girls on Pday. Then afterwards we went to Elder and Sister Andrew who are parents of my old Young Womens leader and they are serving a mission here in Brasil and guess what they live five minutes from our house. They are so sweet. They invited us over for cookies and juice. It was so fun to talk with them. They are so sweet. She made beautiful Christmas cookies that looked like home and it was fun to talk with them because they were mission Presidents so it was fun to hear about what happen in there mission.  We had this funny/ not so funny experience the other day. We went to recent coverts house to talk to her and leave a little message on faith. But what happen, her crazy grandfather walked in and totally runied our lesson and the spirit for that matter. Our recent convert is Bianca and she is 15 and she is still a little cold with us because it was the Elders who taught and baptized her so she is a little weird with us still but we are working and praying hard to become friends with her. So we were talking about faith and her grandfather was like I don`t pay tithing. We were like oh no. And then he went on and on. And if you don`t know Brasilians they have hot blood just like Mexicans and my beloved companion is one of them that has very hot blood. And I know when she gets mad. So the old man was like ya I don`t pay tithing because Peter paid tithing and died and Jesus Christ didn`t come to this world to die for our sins. My companion was like no, your wrong. Old man. No I have read one part of the Bible so I know everything. And those that know me well I will laugh in awkward situations. Don`t worry with these crazy missionary experiences I have gotten better but I was like oh no! S.O got him to calm down. Then we started back on faith. But what happen. He was like do you know why your black? S.O grabbed no really she slapped my thigh because we were sitting together. She was like oh no we are not talking about that. We are not here to talk with you. And he went on with this crazy and I mean crazy story to as why I am black. S.O was fuming. She hit me three more times. And raised her voice. It could have been worse but because we Bianca was there and we are trying to make a friendship with her so we settled down. S.O. was like no your wrong. He was like be quiet with my power I will kill you. We both laughed. We were like go ahead you can`t do anything with your "power" we are servants of the Lord and quite frankly you have nothing on us. He shut up real quick. We sang a song and said a prayer and left. It was intense. But it was a good moment as well. To feel that kind of fire in your belly to stand up for what you believe in. At that moment it was tithing. It was so cool. What It comes down is no matter what stand up for what you believe in. Never backdown others will see your faith and devotion to what you beleive in and will question to as where you found the surety that what you believe in is true. At all times in all things in all places. Boa Natal gente. He really is the reason for the season.

That is BBQ in street. They shave off the meat and put it on french bread. Super good and super cheap
we went to the ever famous and popular 25 de marco which is this popular street in Sao Paulo that has everything cheap it was rad.

Rich People are Funny

This week has has it`s up and downs. Really it was more in the downs but what can you do? The good thing is is that I still love my companion. She is my new BBF for those that are wondering I have made a new meaning. We are all familar with BFF well BBF is Brasilain Best Friend. I just love her. This area is really hard. Well hold on it`s not really the area that`s hard, becasue that isn`t fair to the area. It`s the missionaries. Not saying that we suck. We are just lost. We have to learn how to work here. We just want to teach. It is so hard to feel like a missionary when your not teaching. Or teaching but no one is down for commitments, ya it`s real cute when people do that. Everyone works here and has no time for anyone, barely enough time to talk with us for five minutes. It is hard on the heart. You can`t help but get down. Luckily my companion is my BBF and when everything around is falling I can have faith and hope with her, that girl is my rock. I am blessed because I have already passed through times when it all hits the fan and on top of that you have a really bad companion. But that is in the past and I hope it stays in the past. So let`s talk about rich people really fast. They are funny. Even the food they eat is different. We had pizza the other day for dinner with this family. And what was on the pizza? No it wasn`t pepporini and chesse. It was tuna. And not the starkist tuna but the fat piece of tuna that is way way yummy. We were like wow. And the other day we were eating lunch and the irma was like who is giving the lunch message. With every lunch it is our duty to leave a powerful lunch message with the members for them to be strong. Anyway my companion was like I will. The irma was like dang I want you to give it Sister White because I want to hear it in english. I was like we can do that. I was a little nervous but I gave this simple but powerful message about the love and mercy of our Jesus Christ and that he loves us all no matter our color or weight or if we are dumb or smart. And I showed her a picture that I carry in my scriptrues of Jesus Christ holding a little black boy by Liz Lemon Swindle. And I explained that this factor is very important to me because I am adopted and my mom is white and the irma started crying. She started to explain to us that two of her children are adopted and that they aren`t prospering in the gospel and she is happy to see that it all worked out for me. Then I said that my companion is adopted too she started crying even more. It was a really cool powerful moment. The spirit was really strong. Every area I pass through there is always a person that reminds me of someone from my family. So our ward mission leader is exactly like my Uncle Kenney. It is so funny and warm. I feel like I am at home. Then there is this new Sister and she is American. And she has a voice exactly like my cousin Angela it is so funny and talks just like her, her manner and what not. I love it. I can always find a piece of home in 5,000 miles away from home.

If I make it there, I can make it ANYWHERE!

I don`t even know where to start with this week. It has been a whirlwind. Even my journal is confused. Let`s take it back to last Monday. Me and my beloved companion and I where writting our letters to our friends and loved ones when the assisntes to the mission president called. So when the assisntes call it`s not just a hey hope things are well. It`s either your in trouble, someone in your family died, or maybe just maybe a piece of good news. So Elder Ostlund (americano) called and we always use our cellphone on speaker phone. Well he was speaking in english and was like hey how are ya? All happy and cheery. I was like ummm what? In my mind I was like what what happen, who died? He was like well you and Sister Oliveira have been transfered. My companion was like what no. She was screaming. He repeated himself. She yelled at him to speak in Port but at this point he was already speaking in Port. It was so funny. After I put my hand over her mouth, I was able to hear him. We shut Ouro Fino and Elders opened it. And we were sent to Imirim which is in the capital. It was an emergency trasnfer because so many missionaries don`t have VISAS so when they get VISAS they send them out. So we were like wait are we staying together he was like yes. We almost starting crying. Her and I cannot part. We are best buds. So we left one day after. It was crazy to say goodbye to everyone. I had six months in this area, lots of close nit friendships. But that`s the mission baby. I gotta go where the Lord wants me to go. It was hard to say goodbye to Leni she cried and was like no you can`t leave. That was hard. So we got to Imirim. President dropped us off with Sister Martins. They even bought us Mcdonals. It was so wierd to enter into the capital. It is literally like going from Virgina to New York. This will be my first time to work in the capital. My companion has already worked here but I was way excited. So we got to the house. The area had been closed for about five months and it was a hot mess. Even Sister Martins was like ummm she tried to be postive but... We were like ummm. So President was like good luck and I`ll see you later. Well we got to work to start to clean and orangize. But the house is just bad news. We called President that night becasue there was problems also with the neighbors and he came and got us. It was almost midnight. I love this man. And where did we stay? At there mansion in the sky. But what is going to happen with us?

Part two. President as he was driving us to his house said that he was going to close the area and put us somewhere else. He didn`t know yet but somewhere else. So we stayed the night with them. We have know called it the Hotel Martins. There house is amazing. The next day we ate a wonderful breakfast with them and returned to the office. He decided where to put us. Smack dab in the middle of it all. Where are now in Morumbi. We are sharing the area with the Assinstines and the area is amazing. Our chapel is right next to the Temple. And there are always area 70 sighting and shopping to the nines and how nice is it to see the Temple everyday. Our house is amazing. I`m in the heart of São Paulo working for the Lord with this legit atmosphere buzzing around me. It will be different. Everyone here works and lives in these amazing apartments and condos but we are ready. Stay tuned for our journeys here in the urban jungle.

Leni's Big Day

Leni's baptism and Sister Elisanglea who helped us a lot with her
Hey all! he week has flown by and so much has happened. Where to begin. We had a baptism on Saturday. Her name is Leni and she is a little old lady and the sweetest woman I know. I just love her to death. Her baptism was really cool. We had members and we sang with the Elders it was really cool. When she came out of the water she was shaking. She was so happy. She calls us her flowers. She is so sweet. Then Monday we had a conference in Sao Paulo with Elder Evans he is the 70. He is really cool.  His training was really cool I liked it a lot. And I threw my wig on just to feel good and different. People were for sure thrown off, well the Brasilians weren`t but you know white folk that come from a place with little culture.. well they were thrown and saying things like wow was it really easy to do your hair, looks like you just did it really fast. Whatever hahaha. It is all good. I am happy. I love my mission. I love my companion and I love my area.
It was so nice to be in front of the Temple on Monday. I can`t believe it`s been one year since I`ve been in the Temple. Crazyness. But at least I got to be on the outside of it Monday with my awesome companion. My life is brilliant right now I`m lovin every little minute of it. Today we went to the zoo with a bunch of Elders and Sisters that was way fun. It was fun to go to the zoo again and take fun picutures. Man life is good right now. There isn`t any other place I would rather be than righ now working and serving my Savior Jesus Christ with all my heart, might, mind and strength. Boa semana gente, lembre quem è sua Salvador.

God looks on the Inside!!

EDSON'S BAPTISM DAY!!
This week has been awesome and not at the same time. That is the mission for you! Anyway. Last Monday we had a P-DAY in Votorantim. I loved it. Because my awesome companion also served in Votorantim it all worked out. Richelle picked us up with her sister who served a mission in Brasil and was able to speak Portuguese with Sis O and had a yummy American lunch. Then we went to Simone and Juarez. I baptized them with Sister Knudsen and it was so fun to see them, and to talk with them. I love them so much they are my family. Thursday was a holiday. I`m pretty sure Brasil has at least two Holidays per month. They like to get there party on. It was fun. It was Kids Day. So Holidays are hard on the mission becasue no one is home but becasue I`m in Brasil there is always cool stuff and food in the street so that was fun. We are in spring. So what does that mean. April flowers bring may flowers right? So lots of rain. Rain is cool when your not on the mission. On the mission without a car takes a lot of mental work. Do I really want to leave the house to find people not in there house and get completly soaking wet? Luckily we bought these umbrellas one day before it started raining really hard. So the third day we are walking in the rain and I am completly wet on the upper half of my body and not the lower half. We were laughing so hard. At least we were laughing right? Turns out there were holes in my umbrella. So the moral of the story is don`t buy cheap umbrellas. Our cellphone fell into a cup of milk. Opps. And then it started acting all kinds of crazy, opps. We will see what happens with that. The other day after a hard hard day of all of our appointments falling through we were walking on the bike path and it was about eight at night these men without shirts run behind us and well needless to say our day got a whole lot better. Saturday we got our money so we tried to do shopping in the morning. It was still raining. We needed a mirror. Ok grocery shopping is already a pain imange without a car and in the rain. So we left and we left in flip flops I left thinking that was a good idea but it wasn`t. We came back and I threw on my tennis shoes it was crazy. I was losing my flip flops all over the place. We bought some fresh bread from the bakery and were walking out and my flip flop flipped off and went into the gutter and started runnng down the hill with the water. We were screaming and laughing and crying without umbrellas in the rain with hot bread in our hands for my flip flop to come back. Once we got the flip flop back the day got a little better. Do you want to know why? WE BAPTIZED EDSON!!!!! That is right, the hardest person I have ever taught was baptized saturday night. It was awesome! He is so funny. He cracks me up. He acted like he was drowning when he went under the first time so we had to do it again but it was awesome. Then after we went out to dinner with the Elders that are in the area next to us. It was a really good week.
Powerhouse Scripture of the Week
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, becasue I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth, for the man looketh on the outward apperance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
Let us think of this little verse the next time we judge someone for whatever they have on the outside. I thought the Edson wouldn`t except the gospel because he was an ex drug addict and looks pretty homely but...
Ate Mais, boa semana...

Rain and other stories

This week was awesome. And it flew by like crazy. So many random things to say let`s see if I can fit it all in. I had my first dream in Port. They say when you have your first dream in Port it`s all good, so I`m pretty excited. Last Tuesday we had a family night with a member and Kimberly. It was good unitl the members mom came and was going on about how the blacks don`t have power becasue of the church and (Kimberly and I are black.. this woman is not) and was like it`s ok though becasue you girls are still daughers of God... I was just sitting there with my jaw on the floor. Thank goodness for my companion who took over the day and threw down the most powerful testimony I`ve ever seen in my life and the lady shut up real quick it was awesome. And super funny. So Rafelas kids she has four raging in ages 3 to 7. And they are super funny and crazy. The only way to keep them quiet when we are teaching is to let them "do our hair" so one who was sitting behind me was like did you use shampoo today? I said no, then he grabbed a cup that I was drinking from and was like ok well I`m going to wash your hair.. but just as he was putting his hands in my hair his mom screamed NO. There was still juice in the cup that was now in my huge giant hair. It happens. We all laughed pretty hard. So there is this problem we have with members. They are always giving us references but these references are people that really don`t want to here from us. So we went to this lady Ladymar three times she was never home. Everytime the member would be like what happen she was waiting for you with cake tal tal tal (the Brasilian way to say blah blah blah) anyway we go there the fourth time and she is crazy and was like I was hiding from you these last three times you guys passed by tal tal tal. And was super rude. We were like ok cool you don`t want to talk with us but you don`t have to be a bruxa about it. So I bought us some icecream becasue we were feeling pretty rundown. But the next day was awesome. We found this ex-investiagtor from the Elders. She moved but her dad said were to find her. We went to the house and it was heaven. Her grandma has a clothing store on the main avenue. And she has all these black aunts that do hair and are super funny. It was like being in the movie "Beauty Shop" but in Port it was so much fun I loved it. We are working on getting them all baptized hair and all... So Sao Paulo has weather really wierd. It`s spring right now but flippin hot and then it will just start raining in the middle of the street. It is crazy. And our umbrellas broke.. opps. It was fun. Somewhat like singing in the rain.. but not. This week was awesome. I love my companion and I love working with her she is a powerhouse but we laugh a lot. It is so much fun. The days are flying by.
Powerhouse Scripture of the Week
Matthew 11:28-30
29. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
30. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meak and lowly in heart. And ye shall find rest unto your souls.
31. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
In the PORT Bible they use the word suave for easy. So when we take the name of Christ upon us our burdens become suave through him because after all it was he who suffered for all our burdens in the Garden of Gesthame. Remember that this week... Your burdens to him are suave and light...
Have a great week gente, te amo.
Us in the crazy rain without umbrellas and yes that is a yellow leaf in my hair that wasn`t noticed until after the picture

Me and Aryssa a super cute baby of a member

We played with Richelle today and her sister was in town who served a mission in Brasil

Conference Power

Let me just talk about Conference power. Sister Martins who is the Mission Presidents wife was like you cannot watch conference in englih without your companion. But my companion doesn`t speak english. So how will that work? She was like these are the sacrifices you have to make on the mission. You have the rest of your life to watch Conference in english. I was like ok ok. So Sis O and I said some fat prayers for me to be able to understand. Saturday was pretty good. But Sunday was a miracle. There was all this comotion when Conference started. Then this blonde lady was like hey do you want to watch Conference with me in english? I was out of my seat before she could finish her sentence. So Sis O stayed with her mom and me and Dannile went and watch with the Elders. She went to BYU so it really was a blessing. You know what else is a blessing teaching after you watch conference. You have this amazing drive. Like I just saw the living prohphet of God speak. The power was amazing. Sis O and I had a really moving lesson with Roseli and her husband Roubins who she wants the gospel in her life but he dosen`t. But she dosen`t want to go to the church alone. She was crying and the spirit was so strong. And we were throwing scriptures left and right and testifying like never before, and he wouldn`t move. I was like well you have your agency. But we spoke our peace. It was nice.

Friday we had this awesome Zone Conference for all the missionaries here in the interior. And I`m sure I already mention that our mission president is AMAZING. He spoke on Jesus Christ and when he walked on water. And when his apostles were lost at sea with the tempest raising and winds very strong. Peter called out to him and was like let me walk on water like you. And Jesus said take me my hand. And Peter started to walk but then looked down and saw the strong stormy sea and began to fall. He said save me Lord. Jesus replied how can you have you little faith, and Peter regained his faith and walked again on water. My beloved brothers and sisters. We can all walk on water like Chirst. But we need to focus on Christ at all times and in all things and all places. We can not get distracted by the stormy seas of life that distract us from the our Redeemer Jesus Chirst. Anything and everything is possible with our eyes fixed on him. I stand in holy places and I will not move unitl the Captian comes and says well done he is the hope I hold onto... Penso em isso este semana gente. O evangelho de Jesus Cristo è verdadeira gente, segui ele!!!

HAIR

LOVING MY BIG HAIR

EDSON'S CIGS IN THE TRASH!!

This week flew by. I swear each week gets faster and faster. This is good and bad at the same time. Edson is progressing really well. Found out that he doesn`t have a testimony in prophets so we are going to work on that. If you don`t have a testimony of Joseph Smith then it`s all out the window. But he said he would go to General Conference in October so we are pretty happy about that. Ok so let`s get to the funny story. So as you have all seen from my pictures I have big hair down here in Brasil and I love it. Apparently other things love it too. The other night when we came home Sis Mon was like Sister what is in your hair. I was like oh no what? She pulled out some leaves, and a candy wrapper. I was like what the heck. Then we are walking in the street and I am talking to her and then I feel something in my hair but keep on going. After a while there was a huge fly nesting in my hair. I of course flipped out and started making this scene in the street in broad daylight  yelling in Portaglish which is a mixture of the two it was crazy. She was lauging so hard. These things always happen to me in the street. Crazy times in Brasil. But this work is amazing. It`s not always easy but I love it to death.. Ain`t no place I`d rather be...

Elder Godoy

Oi gente tudo bem? This week flew by again. Friday we had an awesome conference with Elder Carlos Godoy who is the area seventy here in Brasil. It was really cool. He is amazing. We had this amaizng training with him and his wife who also served a mission and with President Martins and his wife so cool. It`s rare to have two couples and the four of them in total served a mission. This week has been good as far as our investigators progressing. Edson is doing really well. He still doesn`t feel confident enough in himself and in the Lord for that matter to be baptized but he is half way through the Book of Mormon.... Kimberley and Cristina who are a mother and daughter duo and Cristina has five more kids are a really cool family I like them a lot. And all seven of them where at church yesterday that was way fun. I loved it. They said they had a great time. September 7 was the "4th of July" here so we had a recent convert throw a BBQ for Edson and a few members it was a hit. Gots to love that integration. There are a few familes that we will be leaving behind this week becasue they aren`t ready to follow Christ. It`s always so hard to leave them behind but it will be all good, the Lord will place in our path a family that wants and is ready to follow the Lord. This week Sis Mon made me "what you eat when your broke breakfast" and what would that be fried eggs with farofa. Yummy. And then I showed her. I threw so peanut butter and jelly in a cup mixed it a bit and threw a spoon in it. She was like what is that. I told her to be quiet and just eat it. She loved it. She was laughing so hard and has been telling everyone. So funny. Two new food items that are super differnt to us but not to them that I tried this week. You eat your lunch with the rice, beans, salad, meat and a chopped up banana. Yummy!!! They do this in the south of Brasil, and it`s so dang good. Ice cream with jello. I know right, huh? No it`s amazing. Who knew. This work is amazing gente, everyday I get to walk in the street and share the gosepl with my brothers and sisters.. Which gosepl means GOOD NEWS!! O evangelho de Jesus Cristo è perfeito!

Boa Semana Gente... remember who you are!!!!!!!

Time Flys When Your Working for the Lord

This week flew by. It was a good flew by if you know what I mean. Of course there was a lot of silliness that went along. Working in the street everyday is so funny. And even more funny in a different idomia. So Edson had a bad relapse but we got him back on track and he is amazing. He was at church yesterday and was feeling the remorse that he didn`t to feel for the things that he did. Plus our friend Tadeu who is Edson friend as well is helping us a lot. And we found some other really cool people to help. One thing that I have learned from my mission is the amazing incredible power of the Atonement. Working with Edson has really opened my eyes to the power of forgivness. Because I know for a fact if I was his friend or whatever before the mission and was trying to help him follow Christ and he relapsed I would drop him like a hot pocket. To know that Christ died for every single persons sins is mind blowing and very humbling. And to know that we can always can to him again. This gospel is amazing. I don`t know where I would be without it. And I get to share this gospel with people everyday!!!!!!!!!!

Noone puts Baby in the Corner...

This week has been full of laughs and giggles and a I love it. Edson is progressing so well. It`s almost to good to be true. He is a rockstar. He was at church yesterday singing his heart out it was so rad. This is his third time at church and he is all about it. He has the shakes a bit because he stopped cold turkey with the cigs and the coffee and the drinking but he is powering through. It`s so amazing to see a change in someone like this. We found another awesome family to start working with. Roseangela. She has twevle kids but only five live with her. She is really cool. Two of her kids went with us to church yesterday. Luis Carlos and Rafela. They are seventeen and eleven. It was really cool. They are totally pumped to come to church with us next Sunday oh happy day. We taught Gospel Principles yesterday as well. All these people that aren`t recent converts busted in just to see us teach. I was like ummm ok, but it was all good. I made brownies. So that way they could at least leave the class with some kind of inspiration. Friday we had this really cool leadership training. It is usually for the LZS and LDS and the Elders that are training. But because our President is a boss he wanted his beloved Sisters to come. So it was an all day event. We had lunch there, pracitced for hours and walked away tired but full of new knowledge it was rad. Saturday night was our ward activity. It was a dance. 50S, 60S, 70S and 80S. It was so much fun. OMG and me and Sis Mon were able to pull off pretty decent outfits considering we are missionaries. Luckily the Elders who lived in our house before left behind a bunch of clothes so I was able to get my 80S on hardcore. Followed by the classic tie tied around my head. People were like umm what is that? I was like this is 80S baby. It was cool. All the music was awesome. Like the DJ played popular music from that time period but it was in Portuguese so I was still able to sing along hahaha. Everyone was like how do you know this music I was like I was raised on the classcis. Thanks mom. It was a good turn out. Members brought there friends but none of the friends lived in our area... But it was still good. The week flew by it was way awesome. This gospel is truly amazing. I love to see how it changes peoples lives from night to day.
Boa Semana Gente,

It's all down hill from here...

This week has been fun and crazy. Last Pday we spent it with Pat who is this really cool member in our ward and we ate and laughed and had a grand time and she sang us African lullabies. She is amazing. I just love her. And she did our nails. I hit my nine months. So of course we had a huge party! We ate cake and french fries and had a picnic in the park. And took the crazy nine months pictures. It was way fun! I had a small panic attack. Like I only have nine more months to learn Portuguese and save people, but then I ate cake and I was fine. For a few days I had this wierd stomach pain I don`t know what happen. And Sis Mon was trying to make me some tea. Up north where she is from they drink different kinds of tea when they are sick and she was like hey drink this I was like no I want drugs. She was like oh you crazy American all you guys want is drugs. I was like yes you better beleive it. We met Telma who is this awesome lady. We taught her a really powerful first lesson. But she didn`t come to church that was sad. We will stop by tonight to see what happen. I made Taco`s for Ludy birthday on Friday and the Elders lunch fell so they ate with us too. It was way fun I used the stuff my mom sent me and the Brasilians were going crazy. It was so funny. They were like sweating they were like what is in this so funny? I was like this isn`t even the real good stuff. We met this other really cool lady named Laney. She is in her 70`S and a bit of a hussy. She kills me, but she is down to change. Yesterday was way funny. I gave a talk in church. I started talking in English and everyone was like umm and then I was like just kidding I will talk in Portuguese and everyone laughed. I talked about using our talents. I told them that my talent is to sing but I am embarressed to sing in front of a bunch of people. So after everyone was like I need you to sing at this or that. So funny I was like my stupid mouth. I thought maybe they wouldn`t understand me hahaha. And where we had lunch was way way fun. It was with two really cool families and we laughed and ate. It was awesome. And today we got to come to Votorantim and go to the waterfall and eat with Richelle. It was so much fun. I missed her so much!!! I loved every moment of it. P DAY goes by way to fast. Onto another week of giggles in the street and helping people follow Christ. I love BRASIL.

Well one thing is for sure the week goes by way faster when you laugh a lot. And one thing me and Sis Mon are good at is laughing. She has problems with sugar. So whenever we have dessert with the members she is crazy after when we go and hit doors. So hitting doors is way more fun. She cracks me up. This one lady who was a total bruxa was acting all kinds of crazy with us. Sis Mon was talking with her and I started laughing and ran away. And then Sis Mon started laughing and the lady was yelling at us and we were laughing so hard in the middle of the street. It was so funny. We met this really cool guy named Marcio. And he asked us a really intense question about Jesus Christ and his Apostles. And I was able to answer in Port it was awesome I was so happy. By the way that moment was totally from the Lord not from me. I found a sign in the street it`s a sign that has a arrow. We put it in the house and wrote on it with a big fat sharpie "WHERE ARE THE ELECT TODAY?" So funny and everyday we use it. There is still mass confusion with Bianca and her family. No one seems to understand the rules of the mission. Even our leaders in the ward. We cannot baptize because she is not in our area and two she cannot stay in our ward. But no one seems to want to understand me. Me and the Elders of the other ward are so annoyed with it it is crazyness. But the good thing is she wants to be baptized so it`s all good. We met another man Jaco and taught him last night. He is a member of the Congreacao. So he wanted to say the first prayer, sure whatever. Ok didn`t know he was going to give the prayer of a lifetime. My companion almost died. Oh people I just love entractions with them. Fast and Testimony meeting was yesterday. And I shared my testimony. And made everyone laugh, because I was like when I got here I was all we are really going to eat rice and beans everyday? So funny. And even funnier everyone attacked me afterwards and was like wait what do you guys eat then? So funny. And Sis Mon shared her testimony. I had to help her practice and all beacasue she has never shared her testimony. She has only been a member of the church for like three years. So when she got off the stand she got a invite to give a talk next Sunday she almost died. She has never given a talk before either. She was like no I am not doing it. I was like I will help you calm down. Oh I lost our cellphone. Opps. But we got a new one a few days later. The only problem is we have to pay for it.... The other day we were walking in the street at night and laughing. And then we got in between this dog gang fight. We spilt and ran like you know what to safety it was the funniest thing ever. Like I said Brasilian dogs are crazy. Well gente this week flew by and it was awesome. This work is so amazing. I have the best job in the world. To help people follow our Savior Jesus Christ.

So last Pday was super boring. We had nothing to do. Pday is the worst when you have nothing to do so from now on we will always have something planned with members or I don`t know something. Because you feel super homesick and bored out of your mind. But today we are having a zone activity and then Sis Mon and I are going to the center to go shopping. So we are remember Maria and her whole family? Well it turns out she is not in our area. There was a fat error on our map and she is not in our area. The Elders are over the moon because they have no one to teach right now but we were super sad. As was Maria but the show must go on. We will visit them on Pday`s and what not and go to there baptism so it`s all good. The other day we were hitting doors. Which depending on my mood can be fun or awful. Why fun? Because of all the crazy people you meet and conversations you get to have. So we are talking with this old lady. And she was all "Wait, what church?" We said the name again. And we were like more commonly known as "The Mormons" and she rolled her eyes and shook her head and made this huff sound. It was the funniest thing ever. I couldn`t stand it I started laughing. And then Sis Mon started laughing. And she was going on about how her daughter is a member but dosesn`t go anymore and all this jazz. And there I was still laughing it was so funny. We just love her. Picture a Brazilian Betty White... Now does the story make sense? So we started working out with the Bishop wife Shirley three days a week in the mornings. It is way fun. She is a hoot I just love her. And I am going to start a program for the sisters of the ward to do an exercise program with us the Sisters it will be awesome... Stay tuned for that outcome. We started working with Marcia who is a less active and super funny but not really ready to go back to church still not sure why? When we ask she changes the subject. The first time we met her she was all wow you speak really good Portuguese for only having eight months on the mission. Then I would say something else and she was all what did she say? It was so funny. I speak really well but she couldn`t understand me. I was dying. This week we lost a lot of people just not ready to step up to the plate. Vanessa. So sad. Sunday on our way to church this man was like Tia Tia. Which means aunt. Ya why they call us aunt is beyond me but anyways. He was all do you remember me? And we were like ya. He is homeless well somewhat he lives on the couch of a less active member. And is a drunk. Anyway he was all I want to go to church today but I need to change my shirt. I was like ok. We will swing back around and come and get you. We come back and he was still with his group of drunk friends and we were like so you coming and he was like well my kids are coming. Blah blah blah and he had a cop in his hand with some kind of alcool I was like oh boy. So sad. But this week had it`s ups and downs. That is the mission baby. A roller coster of everything and I don`t want to get off. Boa semana gente. Te amo.

Well well well time is just flying by down here in the South. And I`m loving every minute of it. Where to begin. So we had this reference from the net and we went to her house it turns out it was her nine year old son Guliherme that wanted to talk to the Elders. So we went by and taught her and him and her other daughter Myla who is eleven. He reminds me a lot of Cody so he is special to me!. Marta couldn`t make it because she was sick but the kids are amazing so ready to be baptized. And they loved church. We had to leave behind three investigators because they weren`t progressing. Amanda literally ran from us... Pamela just straight up said she wants to see Joseph Smith name in the Bible then she will "believe".. and Elisabete well her husband beats her and drinks and said she can`t talk to us anymore... So it is said to leave people behind but the Lord always places new faces in your path the same day. Maria. She is awesome. We got to teach her and her four kids and husband and have a BBQ so good. We took my what I like to call Ouro Fino best friend with us and her little family, her name is Ludi anyways it was awesome. They have two teenage daughters. Bianca and Andreas. But only Bianca went to church on Sunday with us. And she loved it, it was awesome. She is great I hope we can help her. We are also teaching Sergio who is married to a member Ana Lama but he is known as "mission impossible" he has been through five sets of Elders and isn`t baptized. When he is ready he said he will. But I think that is a load of crap and that he isn`t letting himself be ready if that makes any sense. You have to have an open heart and be willing to expect the message if not... it`s really hard to move on. So we are going to work with him he is really cool I like him a lot.

Another investigator from the net Deigo well he lives above a Church so when we went that night the Church was in full swing with lots of Haulljuahs and Glories going around I was like oh no he is like a Pastor or something and wants to burn us. Well he isn`t he just lives above the church but he was sleeping so I hope we can talk to him this week. We had interviews with the President. And it was awesome. I love that black man. He is this huge black man that looks and sounds like James Earl Jones but in Portuguese and he speaks English I love him to death. I talked to him for 45 minutes about "life" it was awesome. Then we got to have lunch in the area of the Elders in Trujilo it was rad she knows how to cook, but there was no sobremesa, sad day.

We got to go to a wedding in Cerrado with the Sisters there who I love to DEATH, because the couple are old investigators to Sis Mon so we got to go and spend the day with them, loved loved loved it. Aula de Ingles was way better this week we had investigators come so that was way good. These are my nicknames here now, teacher, branca, whiteeee. And I love it. We had lunch with my best friend of Ouro Fino and it was good she well she don`t cook, but her husband Roger threw it down and it was bomb.com. It was a sandwich but it was a Brasil sandwich. Hamburger, egg, mashed potatoes, ham, cheese, calabressa, tomato, and love of course and it was huge it was so so good!! And they aren`t sealed in the Temple so they are working on that for next year and she was all sad because here there aren`t a lot of choices as far as temple clothes so I showed her the church website and she was going crazy she was like when you come back to stay with me I`m going to need you to bring all of this with you I was like oh ok...

Saturday we cleaned the outside of the church with Ludi and then got locked out and where late for lunch and it was crazy her mom yelled at us and we laughed it was awesome. Her mom loves us it`s just mom`s are different here it`s way funny. The Stake had a youth program where every ward had a country and danced to it. We went it was awesome loved it. Of course the one about Brasil was the best I was like I love my country it was so funny!!!!! Everyone believed me, now I just say I am from Bahia and everyone believes me I love it. Sunday was the best 4 investigators at church that is when Sundays are the best and you don`t want them to end.

So remember I said we got a new stove and washing machine. Well I guess the stove was for Elders and the other Elders called me and where like do you want to make meals for the Elders in Negra Floresta I was like umm no why? They were like you won`t suppose to take that stove. Opps my bad!!! Whatever. It`s all good. I`m not in trouble I played the "dumb American" card and it was all good. No but really our old stove is a mess so it was for the best.

So today we had an activty with the Zone and we got to watch Rio and it was the best day of my life. That movie and all that you see in is Brasil is my mission. Beauty, Favelas, music, crime and love all in one place. We were all going crazy for the movie I loved it. It was so cute and the music is super good!!! Plus we got a new cell phone so we are really cool now!!! Well gente this work is amazing and I wouldn`t change it for the world. Te amo e boa semana...

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Well gente this week has been really busy. We have been really working hard with Gustavo and found more elect people to help. Gustavo`s mom is being crazy and won`t let him get baptized now but maybe his dad will let him get baptized I don`t know. She is really hard to work with. Very hot and cold. Last night we taught a lesson with my new best friend here Ludi she is amazing. One of my favorite qualities of myself is that I can make best friends almost anywhere I go. So anyway we taught Maria by the way everyone`s name here is Maria... She is really cool she already had lessons with the Elders along time ago but she seems to be ready to accept the gospel and follow Christ. So anyways they were having a BBQ and her husband and there neighbor were a little on the tispy side. Well the husband was tispy and the neighbor was drunk. So that was funny and sad at the same time. Ludi is in her 30`s and married and served a mission so she was on it. But the family is really cool. They said they were coming to church but some things came up so they will come to church on this sunday. Remember Simone and Willame. Well there brother came with us to church on Sunday and loved it and said he wanted to be baptized. I was amazed. It was amazing. He is 20 and fell from the heavens as we say. So I am excited to work with him. And we found a really cool lady named Michelle but she works on Sundays so we should see what happens with that. Then we had to leave a lot of investigators behind because they weren`t progressing and not ready to follow the Lord. That part is hard but that is our job to find the new. It was Sis Mon birthday on Saturday. We have eaten five cakes since then... And the best gift of all we got a brand spanking new washing machine and stove LOVE IT!!!!  And we killed our old closet and the house looks so much better I love it. It`s the best. Let`s see oh Ludi she is super fun and amazing and I just love her we laugh so much together it`s so cool to have best friends in Portuguese. And another irma in the ward she loves to bake and her sister in law lives in the states and she was showing me all her baking stuff that she had sent her. I was like have it have it have it. She was like OMG. So we are going to have a PDAY and bake I am so excited ugh I miss baking. Today we went to Itu with the sisters of Eden and Cerrado. I love these sisters they are the best. It was so much fun. And tonight we have our family night with all of our recent converts. The week was super good. Lot`s of giggles today I just love Sis Wohlford the one from Sacramento and Sister Peck just love hanging out with them. I wish we could all live together it really is the best.  My camera is still being super weird so I will buy a new memory card this week and get going on sending some long over done pictures. Boa Semana Gente the Lord is truly amazing and he lives and died for us so we could have happiness every single day of our lives, it is only our decision alone if we want to follow him and receive these blessing yo.

Oi and greetings from Parque Ouro Fino which translated in English means Park of Fine Gold. So let`s go back in time real quick. I went to get my hair did at Flavia`s house. I finally let her talk me into it! I was scared out of my mind because those that know me know that I have bad luck with getting my hair done by "people of color" so anyways Sister M went first and I was freaking out and everyone was laughing at me. But darn if the chemical she put on my head didn`t burn like hell at all. It was super nice and fun. I felt like I was at home, becasue she has a salon in her house and her kids were in there and neighbors came over. Everyone was amazed at how long my hair was it`s so funny. The end result was pretty amazing. Of course I didn`t like it at first. It was a little to Smokey Robbinson for me, but the next day it was better. So that night we were having FHE with her family and the Elders called and he was like ok so your leaving... My stomach got all kinds of wierd. And I was like where am I going? He said Sao Bento. I was like is that still in the interior? He said yes. I was happy. I had no clue who my new companion was. He said her name but it didn`t ring a bell. And we would be opening an area, and I would stay senior. And Sis M was going to become senior she wasn`t to happy about this. And the fact that I was leaving and she only had 5 weeks in Votorantim. It was nuts. So the next day was loco. I had to pack. And you don`t realize how much crap you accumlaite on the mission. And say good-bye to Carmelino and his family and Simone and Ju. It was good. It really didn`t hit me. Simone was crying and I was like I will come to the wedding on Saturday. And Susana was super sad so was Carmelino but I said I will come back before I go home. So packing was fun. Not. I hate packing. Some things I had to leave behind and I will grab them at a later date. So we were able to get a ride to Ione and get to the terminal by 6 to get the bus with the rest of the missionaries and go to Sao Paulo. So when we were on the bus everyone was like where are you going? I was like Sao Bento and this one Elder was like no your going to Parque Ouro Fino. I was like no he was like yes. It was mass confusion. We got to the office and I talked with the assisants and they were like oh no your going to Parque Ouro Fino. So that was cleared up. I love tranfers and going to the office. Because that means you get to see all your homies. And we all know that everyone loves me so it was all good. Oh becasue my companion (Sister Monteiro) another Sister M so I will call her in the emails Sis Mon anyways since she still is new I am somewhat training her. There is this new program that we all have to use for when you have a new companion in the field. It is super intense. I was like umm... I talked to President to ask if I could go to Votorantim on Saturday for the wedding and he was said with a big smile on his face no. Droga. Votorantim and Parque Ouro Fino are about the same distance as Sacramento and Roseville but what can you do. So we go back on the bus and party all the way to the interior. I love the bus with all the homies and one Elder had a guitar and we were all jammin it was rad.

So the house. The area is awesome. Super small but awesome. So I asked the Elders is the house clean? He was like ya... So we get there with a irma from the ward open the door and everyones jaws fell to the floor. The house was a mess. A straight up mess. I was like I am going to kill that kid when I see him next. So we went to lunch at a members who has a resturant the food was super good. And he was like hey if lunch ever falls or you don`t have money come and eat here. So where did we eat for lunch today? So anyways we were able to clean the house a wee bit. But had to get to work. The Elders before us were lazy and left nothing in the area book. So we have been visting recent converts and such. Saturday night was the Festa Juniha. Which at this point many people have explained to me what the significane of the festa is but still I am super confused. All I got was remember when John the Batist head was cut off? Well imange my confusion. Anyway the food was super good. And the decorations were awesome. And everyone in the ward loves us. There haven`t been sisters in the ward for 20 years so everyone loves us and thinks we are so cute. I am down for that.

So today we are poor. We don`t get our money until the 1st. So we went to the resturant and he was like come and eat. We were like we will pay you back he was like no no don`t even worry about it. I remember the days!! And this morning I got a call from a number I didn`t know. I was like hello, who is this? It was a womans voice. And she was like it`s Andrea. She is in the area Jardim California and I had 2 divisions there. And she loves me her whole little family. They are recents converts and super amazing. Anyway she was all I want to come and see you. I will be there at 11 at the terminal which is front of your house. So she came and started running to me and as I was running to her I saw Sister Sol well her name is Mara. She left the mission 3 months ago. We had a divsion together. She is super cool. We became really close. Anyway she is from Bahia. She was here in Sao Paulo I was like what the heck. So the four of us gabbed for about an hour. It was so so so cool. Hands down best PDAY ever. I can`t wait to go to Bahia and visit her. Then we came to use the LAN house. And members own it. We came in and were like hey we are the Sisters the Elders left can we use the LAN house and they were like yes. And we were like ok. And they were like and it`s free. We know that it`s hard. They both served missions so that is really cool. It really is who you know gente. This ward is awesome. Members are handing us references like candy. And member references are where the baptims are at. So here we go baby!! Oh and I called for a washing machine that should be in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!! Parque Ouro Fino really is the Park of Fine Gold. Boa semana gente, nosso Salvador vive e ama todos nos, orar todos os dias para ele e ele vai adujar voces, porque ele e nosso Pai Celestial!!!

Momma said there would be days like this...

Well this week has been hard. And now I`m even more mad because my pictures aren`t loading again. I am having lunch with the Americans tomorrow and I will have them get down to the bottom of this or else my name isn`t Sister White. So anyway this week. So there are a lot of bats here. It would be the equilvalent of seagulls all over the place or crows. So anyways they live in these really cool trees. And we were walking in the barrio trying to find a less active family and we saw some bats and it was totally normal. Well it was all good until one ran into my head. It was the craziest thing. I was screaming like a nut job because I thought he was attacking me, Sister Macedo had no clue what was going on it was craziness. I guess he was just flying to low. We didn`t even find the less active families house it was lame. I`m pretty sure my heart flew out of my chest. Of course it was funny later but in the moment no!! That bat was no Stellaluna it was a beast. Whatever... We got to teach two 15 year olds. Rebeca and Tayna they are really cool. I love teaching young people they are so open to the gospel and new things. But they didn`t progress on this week, but hey we planted two new seeds so that is all that counts. Wednesday for District Meeting the Ward Mission Leader of our Zone Leaders taught it was really good. It was a good pump. It was like being at the MTC and having a really good training. I needed a jolt and Irmao Batista was just the ticket. I went out and used his tools right away, and it worked. I love it. I got us lost on the bus, the ride was really pretty saw a part of town I had never seen before so that was awesome but at the same time annoying, but the bus driver was cool and hooked us up and dropped us off pretty close to where we needed to be. Elder Dawson came and fixed my bed yay, ok so it`s better to sleep off the ground. And he brought two letters. One was from a Sister in my mission. Sister Wolhford who is from Sac and I have never met her before but we know all the same people, her letter was a knee slapper I needed that so much. This week like I said has been rough. No one is following through with commitments and just straight up lying to us. If you don`t want us to come over tell us don`t make up some story and then we walk by your house to get to someone elses house and your inside. Ummmm really not needed. We are all adults here my goodness. But at the end of the day Sister Macedo makes me laugh pretty hard so that is good. This week is over and I am so happy about that. I look forward to a new week, and to finding new people who really want to follow Christ. Oh Wednesday as we were walking to an appointment I had a really bad itch attack because I ran out of my medicine, I was good for the first two days but then it was bad. At one point we were on the side of the road and I was like hold up hold up to Sister Macedo and threw all my crap on the floor and had a scratch down, oh my land it was bad. I wanted to jump out of my skin. And cars were driving by and people on bikes and they were like ummm and I was like yes I am aware that I am itching my body and I MEAN my entire body but what can I do. So who do you call? THE AMERICANS. Richelle answered and I was like hey do you have any Bendryl and she was like I will be right over. So she came and picked us up and took us to her mansion, it`s not a house but a mansion, were talking Bev Hills kind of house anyway she took me in the pantry and was like here take these and these. It was like the off brand of Zertic and Bendryl and she was like do you need anything else bread, butter, milk. I was like nope just to pop these pills. So I took them, then she took us home and I went to bed and woke the next morning feeling quite better. It is such a blessing to have her in the ward and that she is so amazing and cares so much about me. I think it should be a rule there should be one American family to every ward for the missionaries that are American. I love her. Well until next week. Tchau

How birthday's are celebrated on a mission

Well my pictures aren`t working again how lame is that. I will take this problem to the Bishops not the Bishop but the American family in my ward they can help me out they are all super smart when it comes to the computer and things. I really don`t have time to mess with the camera while I`m on here. Only have a hour.

So Simone and Juarez turns out are already married and don`t have to wait forever to get married so they get to get baptized on the 12th of June and then we are going to have a little wedding ceremony on the 18th of June for them it will be rad. They are so cute they are so ready. They are golden. I love them to death. Caremlino and Susana and Karen received the Holy Ghost yesterday at church that was cool. Karoline still isn`t ready to be baptized. That is ok it will be a ward baptism. So that is all good. My Birthday was wierd. Like i worked all day made the cake and we put the candles in it and sang and ate cake and then we went back to work. It is so different in the field. Sister Cooley the mission president wife called me and wished me Happy Birthday so that was cool. She is such a doll I just love her. But really I was to stressed with the work to be like it`s my Birthday besides it`s not really a Birthday unless you are with family and friends and good food. Don`t get me wrong the fun fetti cake and fun fetti frosting was the bomb just not the same it happens. Yesterday we did spilts with the two Bruna from our ward. They kill me we hit doors for two hours. It is so fun with them. I love the people of my ward. They are awesome. This week has been hard I miss Sister Knudsen like crazy and it`s hard to learn a new person and understand them and find what they need and to be the woman in charge. Whew there has been a lot of praying. Sister Macedo is cool. She is from Bahia and beautiful. She is a bit a crazy person. She is really quiet during the day but when we get home she wants to play and be crazy and I just want to sleep so I`m trying to figure out her balance. Carol who is this amazing member in the ward she served a mission and is so legit. She gave this epic talk in Sacrament and then gave the lesson in Relief Society. She was like Sister White come up here. She tied a bandana around my eyes and spun me around until I was dizzy. Then she said do you trust me and I said yes. So then she was like ok I am going to leave your side and go somewhere else in the room, and I want you to follow my voice. So I did it I was worried I was going to hit a chair or run into a stroller but I finally got to her. She was like see your safe and happy and gave me a hug and had me sit down. Then she said that that example was like our faith in the Lord. When we are here on earth we don`t see him but we have faith that we will return to him and that while we are here he will lead us in the right direction, he will never lead us a stray it is the fact that we have to have faith in him. He only wants the best for us. Everyone was crying. Then the light bulb went on. I was like ok this is just like right now. I am freaking out being senior companion but the Lord knows I can do it and has faith in me. He will not let me fail, he has provided a way for me to complete it I just have to be the one that has faith him. How amazing is that lesson. He has from the beginning had faith in us and it is our job to have faith in him. Sometimes we get caught up in the whole me me but really it`s all about the Lord. Hasn`t it always been?

Sharday of the Jungle

Another week has flown by. And I love when the weeks fly by. I love coming home tired and dead and spirtually drained it`s the best. It means that you are working hard. This week has been a week of miracles. This man named Juarez went to church last Sunday but it was at the Zone Leaders ward. So the Elders talked to them and they were like where do you live, Votorantim yes!!!!!!! So the next day we taught the first lesson with the Elders to him and his girlfriend Simone who is amazing. And it was great. Then we went back the next day and taught some more. We taught them the Law of Chasity and they totally want to get married. Then the next time we watched The Restoration DVD with them and after the spirit was really strong and Juarez was like I know that this church is true I feel it in my heart. And then we asked Simone and she still had doubts so we said ok let`s get down on our knees and pray and you ask good to help you feel that this church is true. So we did it and then she started crying and recieved her answer there wasn`t a dry eye in sight expect for mine. I KNOW I KNOW. I tried but nothing was coming. The Spirit was super strong so I was smiling from ear to ear. It was amazing. We walked with them and there two super cute kids to church and it was amazing. And they are marking a date at the Courthouse to get married this week. This was probaly the most spirtual experience I have had on my mission thus far.

Today we got to go to the jungle with our investigator Carmelino and his wife Susanna and all the Elders in our zone. It was epic and so fun and chill. But it really wasn`t the jungle. I need to get to the Amazons for the good stuff. But hey I got to see a lake, two waterfalls and a rattlesnake, and amazing views it was awesome. And to think that one person created all of this for us to walk through and enjoy is mindblowing.

Mothers Day was awesome. Talking to mom, and for a surprise my Aunt Candi and Uncle Kenny was so cool. And to top it off we had lunch at The Bishops the American family in our ward and hung out with them until it was our time to talk to our families. It was so fun. It wasn`t even wierd or anything. Just a good giggle fest. It made me miss laughing with everyone but I had to get back to work.

The Lord is amazing and I still can`t believe that he trusts me and has faith in me to serve here in Brasil. It is truly amazing. This gospel is amazing and is ever blessing and ever beautiful. He sent his son to die for us so that we could return back to him one day and have our families for eternity. Is there anything more beautiful than that?

Don't miss me. I'm right here!
